Hotop Winter Mittens »

Baby mitts should come standard with clips or strings, and the Hotop quartet does. These gloves come in two colors, but most importantly, they come with the much-needed clip. That small item is perfect for attaching your investment to your child's coat cuff. As an added plus, these little gloves are adjustable.

The best baby mittens make hands stay comfortable and prevent newborns from scratching their faces. Dads agree that getting and keeping those first baby mittens on those precious paws is tough. Mittens for babies should be easy to put on, and most importantly, they should stay put.

What We Looked for

In this review, we looked at several mittens for babies in all stages of development. We researched anti-scratch mittens for babies, adjustable gloves for newborns, and infant gloves with fingers. We were pleasantly surprised at how many options were available.

Here are some factors that we considered with each product.

Key Features

We looked at what the baby mittens were made of and how they stayed in place. We also looked at different colors, and if you really want white mittens for a baby who puts everything in her mouth. We love that baby mittens are easy to find and come with things like loss-prevention features to stop them from falling out of the car seat, stroller, or shopping cart.

Scratching Help

While investigating new baby mittens, we also noticed that some parents used them to stop their newborns from scratching themselves with their sharp nails. The same way baby booties can help protect the baby’s feet from cold in winter, many parents have used soft mitts to protect their little ones’ faces.

Useful for Play

Another important feature that dads agree on is being able to play in the gloves. For dads, dexterity is way more important than being cute. It was not easy to get our adult paws on new gloves with features designed for play.

Fortunately, after much searching, we did find a few. It seems like no one wants to make mitts so children can play in them. These things should be easy to locate, but they aren’t, and we know it.

These little baby mittens 3-6 months are made of soft fleece, and the adjustable strap is designed to prevent them from falling off of your little one. Below the strap is a bit of elastic to help them stay on your baby’s hand. The manufacturers know that parents love it when there are several layers of protection against losing something new.

We liked the cute pink color and the thick elastic band that keeps these in place. The Zutano gloves are cozy fleece, and for infants, they are one piece without a thumb hole. Zutano makes them in other colors, so if you need baby mittens in boy colors, they have them. The small size makes them ideal for infants under six months of age.

Once your baby gets control of her little paws, you’ll notice how fascinated she is by the tag on these gloves. Besides protecting her hands, she could enjoy chewing on the tag when she wears these fleecy gloves. Fortunately, the tag is sewed securely in place.

Dads agree that sometimes we need baby mittens for playtime. The Zelda Matilda baby mitts are exactly what a baby needs to stay warm when having snow party time with friends.

We never thought we would find a pair like this, with waterproof fabric lined with Thinsulate. We immediately fell in love and wondered why more manufacturers didn’t make these for play in the winter. The long cuff and comfortable elastic kept the snow from getting in them.

The mitts have several features that make these way too cool. The hook-and-loop closure will keep them on your children. The Thinsulate kept them toasty. We also love how we could clip them together so that they didn’t get lost in the closet.

DADS LIKEY

  • Extra elastic to hold in place
  • Plenty of protective fabric
  • Thinsulate inside
  • Size choices available

DADS NO LIKEY

Frequently Asked Questions

Caregivers often have questions about when and how to use baby mittens, both for warmth and for protection against scratching their faces at home or away.

Wise parents put them on their children as soon as the weather starts to turn cold. However, since some newborns scrape their faces too much with their sharp nails, you might have to put mitts on your child as soon as you arrive home from the hospital.

Their nails may be way too sharp to leave uncovered, and since newborns cannot control their limbs, they can hurt themselves way too easily. Manufacturers make infant mitts are cute, and parents know they work.

Unfortunately, most glove manufacturers do not make gloves that include standard strings, clips, and other loss-prevention devices. While some come with strings, you may have to get clips for your favorite mittens. This way, you can keep track of them in the laundry.

Clips and strings should be standard features on all child gloves, as they are lost way too much. We love when the strings or clips are built into them, but you may decide to buy some extra accessories to prevent losing the gloves.

Most parents want their kid's gear to last, but they realize that children's winter gloves do not last as long as they expect. Once children begin playing in their winter gear, those things wear out way too quickly.

You can expect to bring home new gloves about once a year, possibly even more often if your little one really enjoys playing in the snow.

There are many great choices for new gloves. Some parents love soft, natural fabrics, while other parents like easy-to-clean fleece. The key is to choose a great fabric that is soft and easy to clean. Look for covered elastic that does not scratch much.

Remember that your child will put the gloves in her mouth, so pick something you can take care of at home. Choose lightweight fabrics for use when the temperatures rise, but lined mitts or heavier fabrics when the temperatures drop. Our favorite anti-scratching gloves are made of fabrics that are safe for babies to put in their mouths, like organic and dyeless fabrics.

The quick answer is yes. The first anti-scratching gloves should be used at all times, even during naps, as the elastic should let them stay in place. You can start when you bring them home from the hospital.
